Phuket is deservedly called the Pearl of the Andaman, also the Pearl of the South. Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, located a little more than 850 kilometers south of Bangkok, Thailand’s capital. It is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations of South East Asia, thanks to its sea, sand, sky, beaches, mountains and forests.
Phuket is off the west coast of southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea, which is part of the Indian Ocean. The island is a little less than 50 kilometers long north to south and about 21 kilometers at its widest. There are 39 small islands around Phuket.
Phang-nga province is to the north of Phuket and the rest of the island is bathed by the Andaman Sea, which offers great diving sites. Two bridges connect Phuket to the main land, in Phang-nga, the Sarasin Bridge and the Thep Krasattri Bridge.
Phuket really knows of only two seasons, the rainy season, from May to October, and the hot season, from November to April. The period from November to February is the nicest. Clear blue skies are certain, the sea breeze is nice and the seawater crystal clear.
Phuket Town offers visitors delighting architectural features that show Sino-Portuguese influence.
Accommodations on the island range from beach-front bungalows to world-class resorts, serving the various needs of all travelers.
While Phuket’s nature is breathtaking, let’s not forget the nice people of Phuket whose smile and hospitality will make your visit a lasting memory, or have you become a regular visitor to this truly unique destination.
